Employment Record Book (Radna knjižica) in Montenegro

A mandatory document for formal employment

Having an employment record book is a mandatory requirement under Montenegro's labour law. It must be obtained before starting formal employment. The book itself can be purchased at any stationery shop.

Required documents

  • 📌Application form
  • 📌Copy of passport (first page)
  • 📌Copy of boravak (residence permit)
  • 📌Employment record book (purchase at a stationery shop)

Filling in the application form

1Fill in using Latin script
2JMBG / Unique citizen number — on the back of the boravak, first field from the top, 13 digits
3First and last name — as in your passport (in Latin script)
4Name of one of the parents
5Date of birth
6Place of birth — country and town
7Passport number, date and place of issue
8Address in Montenegro
9Citizenship
10Education — secondary school (srednja škola) or university (visoka škola)

Verification process

  1. 1Fill in the application form with the required details
  2. 2Go to the općina (municipality hall) with the completed form, a copy of your passport, a copy of your boravak, and the originals of your passport and boravak
  3. 3The security guard at the entrance may ask your purpose — saying «Radna knjižica» is enough and you will be let in
  4. 4Go to window №8 on the ground floor
  5. 5Hand in the application form and document copies
  6. 6Come back for the completed employment record book at the appointed time and sign the registration log

After receiving the employment record book, hand it over to the HR department or the responsible person at your company. These instructions apply to Budva — confirm the procedure with your local municipality in other towns.
