Diploma Nostrification: What It Is and Why You Need It
Diploma nostrification is the process of official recognition of your foreign educational document in another country. This procedure confirms that your diploma meets local educational standards and requirements.
In Montenegro, nostrification is a mandatory step for applying for a residence permit (Boravak). Without it, you cannot officially verify your education level, which may impact your status application.
What Is an Archival Certificate?
An archival certificate is an official document issued by your educational institution. It confirms the authenticity of your diploma and provides detailed information about your academic program, including:
✔ List of subjects
✔ Number of study hours
✔ Final grades
This document is essential for accurate diploma evaluation during the nostrification process.
What If You Don’t Have an Archival Certificate?
If you do not provide an archival certificate from your educational institution, the Montenegrin Ministry of Education will only issue a confirmation of document submission for nostrification. This confirmation is sufficient for a residence permit application, but:
📌 After one year, you will need to return to the Ministry to obtain the final nostrification certificate.
📌 This can be a lengthy and inconvenient process, especially if you are living abroad.
However, if you submit an archival certificate in advance, you will receive final nostrification much faster, eliminating the need for repeated applications.
